The gently curving necks and subtle body colors of great blue herons create an elegant harmony. That softness contrasts with the piercing golden eyes and large beaks. The fine details of their feathers are set against a heavily textured background to add another layer of interest. I always loved to see herons fishing in our backyard river or flying by the studio with their long, slow wingbeats. They always instilled a sense of calm and peace within me. This painting continues my series of long-necked water birds arranged so their curves create a beautifully dynamic composition.
