MMIP Day Art Discussion

Katrina Mitten, Miami Tribe of Oklahoma
We encourage you to listen to Award-Winning Beadwork Artist, Katrina Mitten (Miami Tribe of Oklahoma) discuss her works that highlight the epidemic known as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit, and People. Katrina Mitten has spent nearly 50 years practicing traditional Great Lakes embroidery style native beadwork through her study of family heirlooms, museum collections, and practice. The imagery she creates is inspired by the world around her, like calling attention to the national crisis affecting Native communities. Her works have been acquired by the Miami Tribe, national museums, and private collectors. Illustrating the value she places on education, Katrina has been a corporate lecturer, contributed to elementary, secondary, and university-level educational programs, and is featured in documentary films.
