Security Manager

Salary Range: $25 per hour

The Security Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily security operations of the museum, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, volunteers, collections, and facilities. Position title: Security Manager

Reports to: Director of Facilities and IT

Status: Full-Time

Position Overview: 

The Security Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily security operations of the museum, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, volunteers, collections, and facilities. This position leads the recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision of a team of part-time security officers and works closely with the division director to develop and maintain policies, procedures, and operational standards. The Security Manager balances customer service with risk management, supporting the museum’s mission while safeguarding people, assets, and property. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Staff Leadership & Operations

  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and retain a high-performing team of part-time security personnel.
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management for security staff.
  • Develop and maintain weekly staffing schedules to ensure appropriate coverage for museum operating hours, special events, programs, and rentals.
  • Coordinate shift assignments, time-off requests, and emergency coverage.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and training sessions to reinforce expectations, procedures, and customer service standards.
  • Foster a team culture centered on professionalism, accountability, and hospitality.

Training and Compliance 

  • Work with VP of People and Culture, Crisis Team and Safety Team to implement orientation and ongoing training for all security personnel, including emergency response, de-escalation, incident reporting, and visitor interaction.
  • Ensure staff are trained in applicable museum safety standards, life safety systems, and incident response protocols.
  • Monitor compliance with all safety and security regulations and ensure documentation is maintained accurately.
  • Conduct drills and preparedness exercises related to fire, evacuation, severe weather, and emergency incidents.

Policy Development and Administration 

  • Partner with leadership to develop, review, and update security policies, post orders, and standard operating procedures.
  • Evaluate existing practices and recommend improvements to strengthen operational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Assist in implementing access control procedures, incident management processes, and emergency protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, investigations, and daily activity logs.
  • Prepare reports and summaries for leadership related to security operations and incidents.

Facility and Visitor Safety 

  • Oversee day-to-day building security, including access control, patrol routines, and alarm response.
  • Serve as primary contact for security incidents and coordinate response with local emergency services when needed.
  • Support security planning for exhibitions, collections movement, public programs, and special events.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure safety measures are integrated into operations and guest experience.
  • Maintain awareness of risks related to collections, exhibitions, and public spaces and proactively address vulnerabilities.
Requirements / Qualifications

Reporting directly to the Security Manager, this position combines visitor service, gallery monitoring, access control, and basic security responsibilities.

Gallery Attendants provide coverage at the museum’s public entrances, conduct regular patrols of exhibition galleries and public spaces, assist with visitor inquiries, and support daily security operations. The position also includes cross-training in the museum’s security control room to provide relief coverage during breaks and other operational needs.

The Gallery Attendant plays a critical role in protecting the museum’s collections while ensuring every guest enjoys an exceptional visitor experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Visitor Services and Entrance Operations 

  • Staff the South Main Entrance and Canal Entrance desks during museum operating hours.
  • Welcome visitors and provide directions, wayfinding assistance, and general information about exhibitions, programs, and museum amenities.
  • Monitor visitor entry and exit points to ensure compliance with museum policies and procedures.
  • Assist with visitor questions and resolve routine concerns in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintain awareness of visitor flow and communicate operational concerns to supervisors as needed.
  • Support special events, public programs, and facility rentals by assisting guests and monitoring designated areas.

Gallery Monitoring and Patrols 

  • Conduct regular patrols of first-floor and second-floor galleries and public spaces.
  • Monitor visitor behavior to ensure the protection of artwork, artifacts, exhibitions, and museum property.
  • Enforce museum policies related to photography, food and beverage restrictions, touching objects, and visitor conduct.
  • Observe and report facility concerns, maintenance issues, safety hazards, or unusual activity.
  • Provide a visible and welcoming presence throughout the museum.

Security Operations Support 

  • Assist the Security Manager and Control Room Operator with daily security operations.
  • Monitor access points and ensure authorized access to restricted areas.
  • Complete daily activity logs and incident reports as required.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures for public and staff areas.
  • Support security coverage during exhibitions, collections movement, deliveries, and special events.
  • Participate in emergency response activities, including evacuations, severe weather procedures, and other incident management protocols.

Control Room Cross-Training 

  • Complete training on museum security systems and control room procedures.
  • Provide relief coverage for the Control Room Operator during scheduled breaks and meal periods.
  • Monitor security cameras, alarms, access control systems, and radio communications while assigned to the control room.
  • Document incidents and communicate operational issues according to established procedures.
  • Immediately report alarms, emergencies, or unusual activity to appropriate personnel.

 Training and Compliance 

  • Participate in required safety, security, customer service, and emergency response training.
  • Maintain familiarity with museum policies, standard operating procedures, and emergency protocols.

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Position Overview: 

The Eiteljorg Museum is seeking a dedicated and proactive Grounds and Facilities Technician to manage and maintain the museum’s 7-acre landscape and 100,000 square foot building. This individual will play a crucial role in preserving the integrity of the indigenous plants, hardscape features, and overall outdoor spaces, ensuring they are healthy, visually appealing, and aligned with the museum’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Additionally, the Groundskeeper will be responsible for various facilities maintenance, housekeeping, and event setup tasks when needed to support the museum’s daily operations and special events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains, replaces, or repairs machinery and building equipment as requested by Facilities leadership. 
  • Repair and maintenance of the facility, including drywall work, painting and finishing, doors, door hardware, and windows 
  • Repair and maintenance of electrical equipment, including motors, lighting, and distribution.   
  • Repair and maintenance of HVAC system components, including chilled water system, steam distribution system, hot water boilers, air handlers, and all other auxiliary components 
  • Repair and maintenance of all plumbing systems and components, including drain lines, water supply lines, and associated fixtures. 
  • Utilize CMMS system for all work order tracking, PM information, spare parts information, and troubleshooting history. 
  • Knowledge of the BAS system with troubleshooting skills based on system information.  Also able to make needed adjustments to better support the museum.  
  • Performs all forms of preventative maintenance as assigned for the museum facility. 
  • Must be able to safely operate department power tools as assigned. 
  • Must be able to safely operate Facilities department vehicles both on and off museum property.  
  • Responsible for regular seasonal snow removal as necessary, utilizing manual tools and museum vehicles 
  • Adheres to all safety policies and wears proper safety equipment (PPE), including dust masks, respirators, goggles, hearing protection, and safety harness. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Facilities team leadership.  
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.  
  • Removes trash and litter from the museum grounds and transports to the proper disposal location by use of museum vehicles.  
  • Responsible for regular seasonal snow removal as necessary, utilizing manual tools and museum vehicles 
  • Safely and efficiently use landscaping tools for all aspects of grounds, including trimmers, blowers, edgers, power saws, and other assorted tools.  Maintains the museum’s lawn care equipment, vehicles, etc., by fueling, oiling, and replacing major or minor parts.  Maintain all service records in Facilities CMMS.  
  • Assists with building maintenance, utilizing power saws, drills, hand tools, and other assorted tools and equipment. To help with the upkeep of the building and the preventative maintenance needs. 
  • Routinely waters plants, monitors, and maintains landscaped areas that require attention.  Maintains the museum irrigation systems, making adjustments and repairs as necessary.  This includes individual heads, major leaks, and time clock work.  
  • Keeps track of all grounds supplies and reports conditions or needs for re-ordering to the supervisor. 
    This includes tools, ice melting agents, mower blades, belts, weed control chemicals, etc.  
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Facilities team leadership.  
  • Work Annual Indian Market and Festival, 4th weekend of June. 
  • Leads volunteers as needed to help with landscapes and gardening. 
Requirements / Qualifications

Required Skills, Competencies, and Qualities:

Landscape Management & Maintenance: 

  • Maintain and care for the museum’s 7-acre grounds, with a particular focus on indigenous plant species and native landscaping, ensuring sustainable care and growth.  
  • Perform regular inspection of the landscape for any signs of plant disease, pest infestation, or other potential issues, addressing them promptly.  
  • Trim, prune, and mulch plants as needed, ensuring proper growth and aesthetic appeal.  
  • Monitor irrigation systems, adjusting settings to ensure proper water distribution while conserving water resources.  
  • Manage seasonal planting, including the planting and care of seasonal flowers, shrubs, and trees native to the region.  
  • Preserve and care for the hardscape elements, such as walkways, garden structures, and water features, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and visually appealing.  
  • Work with the volunteer coordinator to schedule museum volunteers and the Master Gardener’s Association to work in the garden on a monthly basis.  

Facilities Maintenance: 

  • Assist with repairs and maintenance in and around the museum, including painting, cleaning of outdoor fixtures, and other equipment maintenance.  
  • Help monitor the general condition of museum facilities, reporting any significant issues to the Director of Facilities.  
  • Ensure all equipment and tools are maintained and stored properly, with a focus on safety and operational efficiency.  

Housekeeping and Event Setup Support: 

  • Assist with routine housekeeping tasks including maintaining cleanliness of outdoor spaces, picking up litter, and ensuring trash and recycling bins are regularly emptied.  
  • Support event setup and breakdown, including arranging furniture, setting up tents, and ensuring event spaces are ready for internal and external events.  
  • Work closely with event coordinators to ensure that all landscaping elements enhance the experience of guests, making adjustments where necessary.  

Qualifications and Work Experience Requirements:  

  • A minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in grounds and landscaping 
  • High School and/or Trade School graduate with 5-7 years building maintenance experience.  
  • General maintenance knowledge of electrical circuits, including 480 VAC 3 phase, HVAC systems, including chilled water, and plumbing systems, including drain lines and water supply lines. 
  • Must contribute to a positive working environment and cooperate with co-workers in a variety of ways including computer, phone and verbal skills. 
  • Must be able to use all manners of landscaping power tools associated with the job safely.  
  • Proven experience in groundskeeping, horticulture, or a related field; experience with indigenous plants and sustainable landscaping practices is highly preferred.  
  • Knowledge of hardscape features, irrigation systems, and garden equipment.  
  • Ability to perform light physical labor, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.  
  • Strong attention to detail and an eye for aesthetics in maintaining museum grounds.  
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and time-management skills.  
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist with various museum-related tasks as needed, especially during events.  
  • Previous experience with minor facilities maintenance or handyman skills is a plus.

Cataloging, photographing, housing, cleaning, condition reporting, inventorying, and packing collections, data cleanup, weekly environmental monitoring, and assisting with preparation for the annual Quest for the West ® Sale and Show and biennial Contemporary Native Art Fellowship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Facility Management: 

  • Manage the daily operations of all museum facilities, including exhibition spaces, storage areas, offices, and public spaces.  
  • Manage the work orders submitted to the CMMS system in a timely manner. 
  • Work with Director of Facilities Operations and IT to develop and implement strategies for maintaining the condition of museum buildings, systems, and equipment.  

  • Perform the maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other systems, ensuring they meet safety standards and operational requirements.  
  •    Manage Facilities Technician and Facilities/Grounds Technician.  

Safety and Security: 

  • Ensure that the museum complies with local, state, and federal safety regulations and codes in partnership with HR Generalist.  

  • Collaborate with Crisis Team to develop and implement emergency preparedness plans and procedures, including fire safety and evacuation protocols.  

Budget and Resource Management: 

  • Work with the Director of Facilities, Operations, and IT to develop and manage the facilities department’s budget, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective operations.  

  • Identify opportunities for energy savings and sustainability, overseeing green initiatives such as waste management and environmental impact reduction.  
  • Source and oversee contracts for external services (e.g., maintenance, landscaping) to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.  

Capital Projects and Renovations: 

  • Work with CEO, Director of Facilities Operations, IT, and the CFO, to plan and execute capital projects, including building renovations, upgrades, and new construction.  

  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, and vendors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and to high-quality standards. 

Collaboration and Leadership: 

  • Collaborate with museum departments (e.g., curatorial, visitor services, education) to ensure that the facilities support exhibitions, programs, and events.  
  • Provide leadership and guidance to facilities team members, fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.  
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including vendors, contractors, and city and state entities such as the White River State Park and DPW. 

Health and Environmental Compliance: 

  • Ensure that the museum’s facilities adhere to all health and environmental regulations, including air quality, lighting, and pest control.  
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability Task Force to meet goals of the action plan including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and green certifications.  

Emergency Response and Crisis Management: 

  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including building damage, system failures, and natural disasters. 
  • Coordinate with emergency services, insurance providers, and contractors to resolve issues quickly and minimize damage.  
  • Manage and participate in on call activities to ensure coverage overnight and on weekends.

The Facility Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing the facilities and equipment used in the operations of the museum. They are expected to work with various tools and perform tasks such as electrical and plumbing repairs, commercial HVAC repairs and maintenance, along with daily equipment inspections. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains, replaces or repairs all machinery and building equipment as requested by Facilities leadership 
  • Repair and maintenance of the facility including drywall work, painting and finishing, doors, door hardware and windows 
  • Repair and maintenance of electrical equipment including motors, lighting and distribution.  This includes 480VAC 3 phase.  
  • Repair and maintenance of HVAC system components including chilled water system, steam distribution system, heat exchangers, air handlers and all other auxiliary components 
  • Repair and maintenance of all plumbing systems and components including drain lines, water supply lines and associated fixtures 
  • Utilize CMMS system for all work order tracking, PM information, spare parts information and troubleshooting history 
  • Knowledge of the BAS system with troubleshooting skills based on system information.  Also able to make needed adjustments to better support the museum.  
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, which include inclement weather, cold and hot temperatures and humidity 
  • Performs all forms of preventative maintenance as assigned for the museum facility 
  • Must be able to safely operate department power tools as assigned 
  • Must be able to safety operate Facilities department vehicles both on and off museum property.  
  • General labor assistance for housekeeping/facilities departments for special events and daily facility operation when needed, including weekends
