Artist in Residence: Glenda McKay (Cook Inlet Region – Athabascan)

September 23 - November 5

We are excited to welcome Glenda McKay (Cook Inlet Region – Athabascan) to the Eiteljorg Museum! Glenda will join us as part of our annual Artist in Residence program, featuring Native and Western artists from across North America to spotlight their work and cultures. During her residency, she will visit classrooms, libraries and senior centers throughout the area.

About Glenda: Glenda McKay’s mission is to teach and share the traditions and culture of the Athabacan people, ensuring that they continue to live on and are not forgotten. Each of her art creations is deeply rooted in her culture, telling the story of her people’s lifeways. True to her Native heritage, her ancestry plays a crucial role in the creation of her traditional art and dolls, which are not mere playthings but cultural objects. Glenda meticulously uses indigenous materials such as ivory, whalebone, feathers, beaver, moose, caribou, deer, walrus, and sealskin, all adorned with intricate sewing, beading, and ivory carving.
