Ever found yourself in a test of wills, be it with a familial or business relationship, with an animal, or even nature (i.e. tsunami, avalanche, landslide)? In pondering multiple titles for this piece…when I came up with the name “Wildfire”, it landed pretty solid. Feeling the term ‘wildfire’, I felt it evinced the internal mood I felt while sculpting it, the attitude of both horse and rider and the unpredictability of the situation. With this piece, I am feeling an uncontrolled fire that started up in seconds, quickly became an inferno…. with the possibility of creating immense damage to all in its path. Wildfires can spread quickly, change direction, and jump from place to place without warning. Oh yeah! “WILDFIRE!”, don’t just read that name, feel it! I love to see and feel the beauty and balance within the (seeming) chaos of this piece.

My favorite part of this sculpture is the horse’s eye taking a backward glance at the rider. I wanted to show the horse being intimately aware of its foe, and in a millisecond…took a look.
