INDIANAPOLIS – The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art has hired a new chief financial officer: Daventry T. Burroughs, who brings more than 12 years of experience in accounting and nonprofit finance.
In his new role as Eiteljorg CFO, Burroughs manages the museum’s finances and accounting, including its operating budget, endowment and earned revenue areas: guest services, the Frank and Katrina Basile Museum Store, the Museum Café and event-venue rental business.
An Indianapolis resident, Burroughs joined the Eiteljorg on Feb. 11 after serving as controller at Paramount Schools of Excellence in Indianapolis, where he prepared financial statements, assisted in creating and maintaining budgets and managed multiple grants.
“We are thrilled to welcome Daventry Burroughs to the museum at such an important moment of growth. His depth of financial leadership, strategic insight and commitment to mission-driven organizations will strengthen our ability to steward resources responsibly while advancing our vision,” Eiteljorg Museum President and CEO Kathryn Haigh said.
An alumnus of the University of Indianapolis, Burroughs earned his MBA there in 2021 and his bachelor’s in accounting in 2013. As a certified nonprofit accounting professional, Burroughs is skilled in multiple types of software used in nonprofit fundraising and accounting.
Earlier in his career, Burroughs served as assistant controller for the Disciples of Christ Office of General Minister and President, the denomination’s chief executive office, in Indianapolis, where he was in charge of financial statements. Prior to that, he was director of accounting and finance at the Independent Colleges of Indiana. He began his finance career as a staff accountant at KB Parrish LLP & Co.
“It’s an honor to join the Eiteljorg Museum. I’m excited to work alongside this dynamic team, stewarding the museum’s complex finances with intention and care so that bold exhibitions, meaningful programs and the stories they tell can continue to thrive,” Burroughs said.
The Eiteljorg also thanks and congratulates Sunny Reed, who previously served as the museum’s chief financial and administrative officer. Reed left the Eiteljorg in October after four years, but has continued to work fractionally as CFO during the transition to her eventual successor. Reed has since moved on to a new position on the leadership team of the United Way for Southeastern Michigan in Detroit as its chief financial officer.
