Artist in Residence: Ephraim Anderson (Navajo/Diné)
September 9 - September 21
We are excited to welcome Ephraim Anderson (Navajo/Diné) to the Eiteljorg Museum! Ephraim will join us as part of our annual Artist in Residence program, featuring Native and Western artists from across North America to spotlight their work and cultures. During his residency, he will visit classrooms, libraries and senior centers throughout the area.
About Ephraim: Ephraim Anderson (Navajo/Diné) is dedicated to capturing historical stories and archaeology through modern art, ensuring that ancient arts do not fade away into mere museum exhibits and books. His work focuses on teaching the next generation of Southwestern Indigenous weavers about the lost history and weavings of their ancestors. Through extensive research, including visits to museums like the School for Advanced Research (SAR) and Wheelwright, and collecting out-of-print papers, Ephraim has begun reconstructing a timeline of weaving technology and techniques from the last 2,000 years. This new narrative reaffirms the collective existence of the tribes of the Southwest, as Ephraim uses his craft to create thought-provoking art and reintroduce wearable woven pieces to the art market.
