What is it: North America is home to several hundred distinct Native nations, each with their own histories, languages, cultures, and forms of governance. No single person or object can fully represent the immense range and depth of these identities and traditions. The Native American art collection includes works created from a wide variety of materials and techniques, reflecting the richness of artistic expression across many Native nations. Experiencing the collection fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of the past and present accomplishments of Native peoples, while also highlighting that Native arts and cultures are not only present today, but thriving and evolving into the future.
How to visit: Visit the exhibit Mon-Sat 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sun 12 p.m.-5 p.m.
More About This Collection
Mihtohseenionki (The People’s Place) is devoted to understanding the Native people who originally and still call Indiana home—the Miami, Potawatomi, Delaware, and others. Partnerships with artists and tribal communities provide visitors with a distinctive perspective about the art and cultures of Native people.
