CODY OLDHAM
Born 2004 in Florissant, CO; lives in Florissant, CO

Growing up in the mountains of Colorado, I’ve always had a love of the outdoors. I’m constantly exploring new visual concepts with my paintings and am excited to bring the viewer into a world many don’t get to see. Art is serious play. It’s hard work and long days behind the easel, but the experience of creating art that evokes the emotions of a living place and sharing that with others fills me with joy.

CODY WAS BORN AND RAISED IN THE MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO and has had a love of the outdoors since he was old enough to walk. His art career began at the age of ten when he started drawing his favorite subject – dinosaurs. He went on to sculpt and paint them before moving to painting the landscapes and wildlife where he grew up. Always seeking to improve, at the age of twelve, he began contacting professional artists he admired and mentored with them.  As a self-taught artist, he continues this today and enjoys the challenges that come with it.

To deepen his understanding of his subjects, he began hiking with his father through the Grand Tetons outside of Jackson, WY and in Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, all of which have become the focus of his paintings. His father has also helped him find, photograph and deeply appreciate the wildlife in these areas.

“I love the idea of capturing rare moments in nature that we don’t normally get to experience. A herd of bighorn sheep catching the sun’s rays on the cliffs of a remote valley or a mother bear leading her cubs around the edge of a pristine mountain lake – these are the kinds of experiences I strive to depict. What draws me to a scene the most is the visceral feeling it evokes to be in these amazing landscapes with their natural inhabitants.”
