Bobby Silas is a celebrated potter known for bringing ancient pottery techniques into the modern era. He began his journey in 2004-2005 at Zuni Pueblo, learning the basics of Zuni pottery from his teacher Gabriel Paloma, and further mastering traditional Hopi pottery from his godfather, Kevin Navasie.
Since 2015, Bobby has been reviving the rare sikyatki firing method, using lignite coal from Hopi’s Antelope Mesa. His work is inspired by the beautiful Sikyatki polychrome and Jeddito black-on-yellow pottery styles. Each piece is meticulously hand-coiled, painted with native clay slips, and finished with a bee-weed plant variant. With numerous awards to his name, Bobby’s pottery is a unique fusion of tradition and innovation. Don’t miss the chance to learn from this master potter!
