Why We Serve Opening Day: Navajo Code Talker Presentation

March 23 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join us in celebrating the opening of Why We Serve: Native Americans in the United States Armed Forces with special guests Peter MacDonald, Sr. (Diné [Navajo]) and Laura Tohe (Diné).

11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Join Peter MacDonald, Sr. (Diné [Navajo]), one of the last surviving Navajo Code Talkers, and Laura Tohe (Diné), a Navajo Nation poet laureate and author of Code Talker Stories, for a presentation about the code talkers, their service in World War II and their legacy.

1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Hear Laura Tohe (Diné) talk about her experiences speaking and collecting oral histories from several of the Navajo Code Talkers in preparation for her book. Her talk will be followed by a short Q&A and book signing.

The Western Book Club will be reading Code Talker Stories by Laura Tohe (Diné).The book club will meet on March 13 via Zoom to discuss it. Join the book club in preparation for the presentation and book signing.
