DAVE LAMURE, JR. HAS HAD A STUDIO IN IDAHO for thirty-four years. His uncle inspired him with a bag of clay at the age of twelve. Later, LaMure took a clay workshop at the Roswell Museum in New Mexico that stirred a lifetime passion for art. Balancing art forms has taken LaMure a lifetime, from his monumental public bronze sculptures to oil canvases. His contemporary wildlife vessel caught Sophia Loren’s eye, and she awarded him best of show. He has absorbed inspiration from being a wilderness river guide and an avid outdoorsman.
As a kid, he fell in love with the deserts in New Mexico and Nevada. Much of his art is inspired by his experiences in the wild which drives his art. LaMure’s works are intended to stimulate wonder of the natural rhythms of life, death, and belonging. “I create wildlife art as a reflection for the survival of our species. By mirroring other animals and the natural world, I acknowledge our critical alliance as nature”.
Dave’s life-size bronze of red-tailed hawks is the most photographed public work in the sculpture park at Fountain Hills, Arizona. Permanent museum collections include: the Autry Museum-Los Angeles, California 2024; the Eiteljorg Museum-Indianapolis, Indiana 2023; the Briscoe Western Art Museum-San Antonio, Texas 2022; and the Herrett’s Museum-Twin Falls, Idaho 2010. Dave uses his art as a foundation to transport rich feelings of belonging to this place of home.
