Día de Muertos Community Celebration

Join us at the museum with free admission from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. for an action-packed day of performances, artists, art-making activities and Catrinas (elaborately dressed and painted models inspired by Jose Posada’s iconic print La Calavera Catrina).

What is Día de Muertos?

With roots going back thousands of years to Indigenous traditions in Mexico, this holiday is a time to gather together to remember and celebrate friends and relatives who have passed on. Día de Muertos, also called Day of the Dead, has evolved into a diverse festival, celebrated not only in Mexico but in the U.S. and many other countries.

Here is the schedule:

• 10:45 a.m.: Welcome to the Día de Muertos Community Celebration with Patricia Castañeda
• 11:00 a.m.: Día de Muertos Presentation by Monarca Academy & Music- Performance by Yuri Rodriguez
• 12:00 p.m.: A Día de Muertos Presentation by Global Preparatory Academy & Music- Performance by Yuri Rodriguez
• 1:00 p.m. – A Message from the Consulado de México en Indianápolis & Music- Performances by Hurakan and  El CirCo: Banda Tributo a la Maldita Vecindad
• 2:00 p.m.: Desfile de Catrinas (Catrina Parade), Presented by Mujeres Conectadas
• 3:00 p.m.: Mariachi Internacional de Bloomington & Catrina All Saints Parade, presented by Laura Uhls & sponsored by JL Collab & Hoover Hull Turner
• 4:00 p.m.: Dance Performances by Grupo Folclórico Macehuani & Grupo Folclórico Infantil Macehuani
• 5:00 p.m. – Music Performances by Hurakan and  El CirCo: Banda Tributo a la Maldita Vecindad
• 5:40 p.m.: Dance Performances by Ballet Folklorico Mosaicos Kids & Ballet Folklorico Mosaicos
