INDIANAPOLIS – The encouraging drop in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the community has prompted the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art to relax its mask policy. Starting Monday, March 7, Eiteljorg visitors, staff and volunteers no longer will be required to wear face coverings inside the museum. Instead, wearing masks will be optional.

Throughout the pandemic, the Eiteljorg Museum’s management and Board of Directors have been guided by CDC guidance and state and local public health requirements for masks and other precautions, in order to ensure visitors’ safety. The CDC’s new guidance is that in counties with medium transmission of COVID-19 – such as Marion County – requiring masks in indoor public places is no longer necessary. Eiteljorg visitors, staff and volunteers still can wear face masks inside the museum if they are prefer to do so, but starting Monday it will not be required.

For visitors who are unvaccinated, only partially vaccinated, or who live with someone who remains unvaccinated, the Eiteljorg strongly recommends they continue to wear masks and maintain social distancing when around others indoors. The same applies to visitors who have compromised immunity or live with someone who does. Potential visitors with symptoms of illness, such as cough are fever, are encouraged to reschedule their museum visit to a different day.
