Members-Only Coffee and Conversations with Scholars on Religion and the American West
April 22 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
About: Join Eiteljorg Museum’s Dr. Jessica Nelson, director of religion and cultural initiatives, as she talks with scholars attending the Clements’ Center for Southwestern Studies at Southern Methodist University annual symposium. This year’s theme is the history of Religion and the American West.
Members will hear from more than a dozen leading American religion scholars from universities across the United States, like Harvard, USC, and UT-Austin, as they discuss their current research into religion in the American West. Subjects range from religious responses to the 1918 flu epidemic and the 1980s AIDS crisis, traveling ministers on circus trains, the spiritualization of national parks, and Jewish pioneers, Paiute-Chinese marriages, and penitente traditions, to name a few.
This event is free to Eiteljorg Museum members and includes complimentary coffee and donuts.
Space is limited, and advance registration is required. For more information or to register for this Inside Look event, contact Jennifer Hiatt at 317-275-1360 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
