Marlin Rotach
Born 1951 in Salina, KS; lives in Kansas City, MO
BORN IN 1951 AND RAISED IN SALINA, KANSAS, Marlin Rotach earned a B.F.A. in painting from Kansas State University. He went on to complete his M.F.A. at the University of Nebraska. Following graduate school, Rotach taught college-level fine arts at the University of Missouri–Kansas City and managed two galleries in the Kansas City metropolitan area. His home and studio are in Kansas City, MO.
Rotach’s paintings have been selected for display in more than 200 exhibitions nationwide. He holds signature memberships in nine national watercolor societies, reflecting both his technical mastery and professional standing. Over the course of his career, he has received numerous honors, including eleven Best in Show awards.
Among his most cherished achievements are two Cheyenne Frontier Days Purchase Awards, each accompanied by the coveted CFD trophy buckles—honors that hold special meaning given his lifelong connection to the American West. In recognition of the event’s 125th anniversary, his painting American Anthem was chosen as the image for the Official Rodeo Poster.
Rotach has also been featured in all major Western art magazines, highlighting both his artistic career and his collaborative book, The River Flows: Watercolors of the American West. He considers this publication, along with its accompanying exhibition, to be one of the crowning achievements of his career, embodying his enduring passion for the land, people and spirit of the American West.
