Indian Market & Festival Application

A Celebration of Native American Art, History, & Cultures

Native American artists from nations across the United States and Canada travel to Indianapolis for the opportunity to share their cultures through contemporary and traditional art, including jewelry, pottery, sculpture, paintings, dance, musical performances and more.

Indian Market Application

  • * Only artwork in your approved divisions will be allowed into juried competition and sold during market.
  • Youth Artists
    * Artists under 17 years old may accompany relatives who have been accepted. They can sell their work and enter judging.
  • Booths
  • Extra Options
    • Indian Market & Festival Staff will do its best to accommodate your booth preference, but reserves the right to make the final assignment of booth location.
    • Booth assignments will be made based on the order payment is received.
  • Fees
    Each artist must submit a non-refundable application fee of $25. There will be a $50 late fee for late applications. After submitting this form, you will be redirected to a purchase page to pay your fee online.
    • Please make money orders out to: Eiteljorg Museum.
    • Sorry, but we cannot accept personal checks.
    • Refunds for cancellations: Full by April 30; half by May 31; no refunds after June 1.
  • Tribal Affiliation
    Please submit one of the following:
    1. A copy of a tribal enrollment / status card. Verification of only degree of Indian blood is not acceptable.
    2. A copy of a letter from your tribe or agency on official letterhead and signed by a senior tribal official or enrollment specialist clearly verifying your enrollment.
    3. The IACB Act allows a non-enrolled Indian artist to be certified, in writing on tribal stationary, by the tribe of his/her descent as an “Indian artisan” of that tribe’s descent. A copy of that certification is acceptable.
    * Artists from Canadian First Nations, Inuit, Metis, US federally recognized and/or US state recognized nations are encouraged to apply. We verify all enrollment questions with the Indian Arts and Crafts Board in Washington, D.C. and follow the guidelines of the 1990 Indian Arts & Crafts Board Act.
  • Image Guidelines
    • Each artist must submit three images from each division marked above. Images must be representative of what you plan to show and sell at market.
    • Images must be in basic JPEG format, no file size larger than 4 MB. All photos or CDs must be labeled with a permanent marker. Photos and CDs will not be returned.
    • Please name the image files to correspond with the image descriptions below. (Image #1, Image #2, etc).
    • Emails with attachments should be sent to indianmarketandfestival@eiteljorg.com along with the name of the artist and image descriptions in the email body and heading.

  • Guidelines and Policies
    1. Artists agree that the Eiteljorg Museum has the right to establish and enforce all rules and regulations, as it deems proper for the benefit of the Indian Market & Festival, and the safety and security of all participants, attendees, Eiteljorg Museum staff and property.
    2. Artwork must be artist’s original work. Imported, manufactured or mass produced items will not be allowed. Imported jewelry such as “stringers” will not be allowed.
    3. Please be respectful of other artists and their booth space. Artists must keep their art within the confines of their purchased booth space, unless granted prior permission by Indian Market & Festival staff.
    4. Artists must be present and remain on-site throughout the entire event to present their work to the public. Booth space that is not set up by 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, may result in the release of the booth to another artist and no refund will be issued.
    5. Artists who are accepted into the show but fail to set up their booth by Saturday, June 22 at 9:30 a.m. will not be invited back for one (1) year.
    6. Artists must bring a selection of pieces (more than one piece) to sell during the two-day market together with the pieces they enter into competition.
    7. Special orders, where a deposit or full payment is accepted, must be completed by the date promised; if the order cannot be completed by that date, the artist must notify purchaser. Failure to fulfill obligations entered upon at the Indian Market & Festival may result in the artist’s exclusion from future markets. The Indian Market & Festival and the Eiteljorg Museum are not responsible for undelivered orders.
  • Agreement
    I have read and agree to abide by the guidelines and policies of the Eiteljorg Museum Indian Market and Festival. I understand that I must exhibit and sell my own handmade work and I will uphold the standards established by the Eiteljorg Museum for the proper representation of my work. I understand that a committee of selectors will determine who is accepted for the market based solely on the images provided. The Eiteljorg Museum is insured against public liability due to the conduct of the market. However, the museum is not liable to the exhibitor, and will not insure the exhibitor, for any damage to the exhibitor’s artwork, personal effects or any materials used in displaying artwork at the market. Exhibitors shall make their own arrangements at their own expense for any desired insurance coverage protecting such artwork, personal effects, or materials.
