A chance to remember and say goodbye
Explore Fernando Lozano’s beautiful Dia de los Muertos-themed installation, which honors those who have lost their lives to COVID-19 around the United States.
In the words of Lozano, “Día de los Muertos, the tradition where we remember our loved ones, is also the time that allows you to say goodbye to those lost. For this reason, I am giving the entire country the chance to remember their loved ones.”
The number of people who have been lost from the effects of COVID-19 to date will be reflected on an altar dedicated to each state. Come and remember those in your life impacted by the pandemic during this exhibition, open from Oct. 14 through Nov. 19.

Message from artist:
As an artist I have always tried to be faithful to my passion, and the above statement guides and dictates the kind of art I want to create. Day by day, I draw from the injustices, conflicts, and tragedies in life that define the art I’m compelled to explore and produce. Art has recorded all aspects throughout human history. My goal is to add to this amazing pictorial collection by documenting the profound events I’m experiencing in my lifetime.
History has given me the ability to see the known. Painting what I believe to be true grants me the confidence to continue exploring the unknown. During the past several years, the country, and the world, has faced a devastating pandemic. We have witnessed the suffering of millions of people. At the same time, the danger of contracting COVID-19 has kept us isolated from our loved ones and made it difficult to be there when they have succumbed to this illness.
Día de los Muertos is both the tradition where we remember our loved ones and the time that helps you say goodbye to your relatives and friends. It is for this reason that I am proposing to give the entire country the chance to remember their loved ones, as seen in this exhibition, We Remember.
We Remember features testimonials from those who have lost loved ones to COVID-19 from all 50 states, capturing how, though we have been isolated, we have experienced the events of the past several years together.
