SOLD OUT – Leon Jett Memorial Lecture: Zaron Burnett III
February 17, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
This event is sold out.
Zaron Burnett’s dad didn’t want slavery to be his son’s only image of Black people in American history. So every night, he filled Zaron’s dreams with incredible stories of Black cowboys. Despite what Hollywood taught us, one-in-four cowboys were Black. Their stories tell a bigger, braver, more honest history of America.
Zaron Burnett III is an investigative journalist, longform features writer, host/creator of the iHeartRadio podcast Black Cowboys. Join us for the Eiteljorg’s annual Leon Jett Memorial lecture and hear Burnett talk about his life and work.
Cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres. One drink ticket is included with purchase.
About the Leon Jett Memorial Lecture:
Leon Jett was the Eiteljorg’s Public Programs Manager from 1999 to 2007 when he taken from us at a much-too-young age. Leon made his mark on the museum through his dedication to quality programming and to working within the Indianapolis community to ensure that anyone coming to the Eiteljorg could see themselves in the museum—in the stories, in the art and exhibitions, and in the programming.
In keeping with Leon’s personal and professional mission, the Eiteljorg instituted this annual memorial lecture to highlight the contributions and all-too-often unknown stories of historical and contemporary African Americans in the West.
