A Message to Eiteljorg Museum Members about Coronavirus

The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is focused on the health and safety of our visitors, members and employees, and we want to share with you the steps the Eiteljorg is taking to address concerns about the new Coronavirus or COVID-19.

The Eiteljorg is open with regular business hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.  While operating as usual, the Eiteljorg is following the guidelines of the Indiana State Department of Health.

What the Eiteljorg is doing
The Eiteljorg will set up sanitizing stations on all three floors of the building. These will include an alcohol spray and sanitizing wipes. The museum also will make available latex gloves and face masks at the stations for visitors to wear if that makes them more comfortable.  Using the sanitizing stations is voluntary for visitors, but encouraged.

The Eiteljorg has implemented an aggressive housekeeping protocol to clean and disinfect three times a day all door handles, elevator buttons, chairs and other surfaces the public might come into contact with.  Museum employees who meet arriving guests for appointments are asked to greet them with a smile instead of a handshake, per public health guidelines.

Visitors to the museum can assist by following sensible steps such as covering coughs and sneezes and washing hands. Restrooms with hands-free faucets are conveniently located on each floor. If you are feeling ill on the date of your planned visit, please consider postponing your visit to a later date. The museum offers interesting exhibits and programs year-round.

Exhibits open as normal
The Eiteljorg Museum is a large, spacious building. Visitors can walk comfortably through the galleries with plenty of elbow room and maintain a recommended distance from others if they wish, while enjoying the museum’s art. The Eiteljorg is a calming, relaxing space in which no one should ever feel rushed or be jostled. Visitors are welcome and are encouraged to attend the Eiteljorg’s new exhibition, Quilts: Uncovering Women’s Stories, that opens March 7 and continues through Aug. 9.

The Eiteljorg Museum management will continue to monitor the Coronavirus situation and follow the advice of public health authorities. Any updates will be announced on the museum’s website, www.eiteljorg.org, and on social media platforms. For more than 30 years, the Eiteljorg Museum has provided a safe and welcoming experience for our visitors, and we are committed to doing so during the current situation.  We thank museum members and guests for their support and cooperation.
