When Scott Shoemaker first saw the beautiful designs made by his ancestors, he was instantly captivated.  As he learned more about the colorful geometric panels he saw on Miami artifacts, he discovered that they were made from ribbons.  He decided to figure out how they were made and that is precisely what he did.  In addition, he has learned to make leather moccasins, shirts and other items that have ribbonwork as a decorative element.

During his week at the Eiteljorg Museum, Scott did demonstrations and held workshops for the public.  It was interesting to watch the pattern emerge as he added strip after strip of ribbon to create his design.  When you come to the museum, you will also see that Scott and his work are featured in the Mihtohseenionki Gallery.  You can compare his work today with historic examples of this beautiful art form.
