Traditional Basketry from a Place of Beauty
Julia Parker works in Yosemite National Park in California.  But it is more to her than a park and her work is more than just a job.  The area of Yosemite is the homeland for her people, the Coast Miwok and Kashaya Pomo tribes.  And her work is to demonstrate and teach the basketry traditional to these groups of California natives.

Julia is a master at this type of basketry.  She shared her work and knowledge of traditional cultures during her week at the Eiteljorg Museum.  As with many forms of traditional basketry, the creation of the basket begins with gathering and preparing the natural materials used.  And in her generous manner, she took visitors all through the phases of making her beautiful baskets.
