Catalina Delgado Trunk grew up in Mexico celebrating the Mexican holiday of Día del Muertos, the Day of the Dead.  After raising her family here in America, she soon found herself creating Mexican folk art, particularly those forms related to this celebration.  She has created beautiful ofrendas, the colorful family altars that honor those who have departed this life, and she is especially well known for her papel picado designs cut into many layers of colorful tissue paper. 

During her week at the Eiteljorg Museum, Catalina was able to share her techniques for cut paper in many workshops with school groups and others.  More than once there were long strings with colorful cut-paper banners adorning the spaces here at the museum.  The museum was also brightened by Catalina’s grace and enthusiasm.  We were so lucky to have her here to help us celebrate the Day of the Dead!
